Actionable insight via our IR capability
Reducing the risk of explosions and service interruption by detecting overheating cables
April 2022, a manhole exploded in Times Square due to cable failure and two more manholes were smoking. Manhole fires more than doubled in NYC from 2020 to 2021, jumping to 6,104 last year.
May-June 2022, multiple manhole explosions rocked downtown Boston, MA, resulting in evacuations, street closures, property damage and injury.
September 2021, a contractor in Syracuse, NY was injured in a manhole explosion that left 1,300 people without power. A month later in Boston, MA, firefighters and crews were sent to investigate a manhole explosion that sent the manhole cover flying into the air. The following November in Providence, RI, burning secondary cables caused several exploding manhole covers in the downtown area.
Sentir IR camera detected hot spot with an alert for a significant high/ low temperature difference reported to SensorView.
Customer was alerted of an overheating cable by SensorCore automated monitoring and notification.
Field crew was sent to cut and patch the damaged cable to prevent further degradation
- Reduce emergency/after hours truck roll
